BLS Training Under Consultancy and Collaboration with TNMC

SRM College of Nursing, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, is approved by the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council (TNMC) to conduct the Basic Life Support (BLS) Skill Training Program for registered nurses as part of the mandatory license renewal process conducted once every five years.

As per the approval granted by TNMC, SRM College of Nursing shall function as an authorized training center to conduct BLS training sessions in accordance with the guidelines prescribed by the American Heart Association (AHA). The training will be carried out at the Advanced Nursing Lab, Ground Floor, SRM College of Nursing, starting from August 2025.

This initiative is undertaken as part of a formal consultancy and collaboration between SRM College of Nursing and TNMC, supporting the council’s regulatory framework and promoting continuous professional development for nursing personnel. Successful participants will be awarded 10 TNMC credit hours upon completion.

Training Objectives

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Understand the importance of early recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of emergency response systems.
  2. Demonstrate high-quality CPR for adults and infants, including chest compressions, airway management, and rescue breathing.
  3. Perform CPR as a single rescuer and as part of a team, following the current AHA (American Heart Association).
  4. Recognize and manage choking (foreign-body airway obstruction) in responsive and unresponsive individuals of all ages.
  5. Use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively in cardiac arrest situations.
Training Schedule and Details
The Basic Life Support (BLS) training program for nurses will be conducted on the 3rd Saturday of every month at SRM College of Nursing, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur.
A registration fee of ₹500 (inclusive of GST) will be collected from each participant.

Organizing Committee

The program is organized under the leadership of Dr. Helen Shaji J C, Ph.D., Dean cum Professor, SRM College of Nursing, who serves as the Convenor of the training initiative. The training sessions will be coordinated by Ms. K Ambiga and Ms. Sheeba jebakani A, Associate Professors / AHA Trainers for BLS & ACLS at SRM College of Nursing, who will oversee the implementation and delivery of the training modules.


 

Global health course - University West, Trollhattan, Sweden

SRM College of Nursing is proud to strengthen its commitment to internationalization through a significant academic collaboration with University West, Trollhattan, Sweden. Formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the broader institutional framework of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai, this partnership aims to establish a long-term, mutually beneficial relationship in higher education and research. As part of this initiative, undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) nursing students of SRM College of Nursing have been provided the opportunity to participate in a free online Global Health Course offered by University West. This course is designed to broaden students’ perspectives on global health systems and policies while enhancing their understanding of key international healthcare challenges. The central academic objective of this collaboration is to promote the acquisition of global knowledge through academic exchange and international exposure, with a strong emphasis on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, the program aligns with UN Agenda 2030 – Goal 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all at all ages. Through this partnership, both institutions are committed to working jointly on innovative projects, fostering cross-cultural learning, and preparing nursing professionals to contribute meaningfully to global health advancement.


 

SRM College of Nursing Signs MoU with Immense Immigration and Education Services (IMIMS)

On 7th April 2025, SRM College of Nursing signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Immense Immigration and Education Services Pvt. Ltd. (IMIMS), Chennai, marking the beginning of a three-year collaborative initiative aimed at enhancing the global career prospects of nursing students. Through this partnership, students will receive focused training for the Occupational English Test (OET), a globally recognized English language assessment for healthcare professionals. The 66-hour programme will cover all four OET modules – Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking—along with specialized sessions on patient communication, work-place documentation, and clinical language use in real-world scenarios.

A Strategic Step Towards Global Nursing Careers

The MoU also includes complimentary placement training and mock assessments, preparing students for international healthcare opportunities. Upon successful completion of the training and required OET/IELTS scores, IMIMS will facilitate overseas recruitment through its HR outsourcing partnerships across the UK, Canada, Australia, and more. The agreement offers institutional discounts based on enrollment numbers, ensuring affordability without compromising quality. With this strategic alliance, SRM College of Nursing reaffirms its commitment to empowering students with global readiness, providing structured pathways to international education and employment in the healthcare sector.
